A.T.O.N.E. Yoga Retreat On Kauai

ATONE(5)November 6-13 was my first Yoga Retreat On Kauai!  A.T.O.N.E. Attuning To Our Nature’s Essence was the theme of the week with a very deep rooted intention of Connection.

The week was held on the north shore of Kauai, in an extremely sacred and luxurious home in Hanalei neighboring a bird sanctuary and endless fields of wetland taro.  This space was our home for the week where we awoke to morning meditations, enjoyed 2 hour + morning Anusara yoga practices and evening practices of acrobatic partner yoga, gentle yoga and yoga therapy.  (more…)

Global Mala On Kauai 2010

Global_MalaKauaiI was honored to host the Global Mala event for the second year here on Kauai.  This year I had invited any instructor that wished to partake in the event and all the proceeds that came in went directly to KORE.  An organization on island that helps handicapped children and adults get into the ocean on surfboards or stand up paddle boards!

We had 5 instructors and we partook with 108 sun salutations along side of the ocean on the north shore of Kauai.  Daphne opened our practice of yoga, offered for world peace, with a traditional Hawaiian chant of which we honored the 4 directions. (more…)

Yoga On Kalapaki Beach, Kauai

yoga_on_Kalapaki_beachI have just started teaching a yoga fusion flow on Kalapaki Beach on Thursday evenings.  Right near the Lihue Marriot, on the grass right along side the beach.  This class starts at 5:15 and ends with the sun setting.

Come and enjoy the sounds of the ocean waves gently meeting the shoreline, the blessing of deeply breathing in fresh prana filled air, and the gift of moving your body and expressing your heart.  If you are standing in front of the Marriott pool, looking at the ocean, we will be to the far left side.

If you are a visitor to the island and don’t have your mat, just bring a towel.  Drop-in fee for this class is only $15.00.  See you on the mat!

THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CANCELED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Vinyasa- Power Yoga Flow On Kauai

yoga-flow-kauaiI am happy to announce that we have another class added to our schedule.  Monday mornings, 10 am in Kilauea Farms, is now a Vinyasa Power Yoga class.  This puts a little more flavor/variety into my weekly schedule!  Vinyasa translates as moving alongside of the breath, or linking the body movement with the breath.

So, in Monday’s practice I will be giving less instruction on alignment principles (which I do in great detail on Satuday’s Anusara yoga class), and more emphasis on letting your breath lead the way through your practice.  I will be weaving the Universal Principles of Alignment into the class, but we will not stop to partner or fine tune those principles in this practice. Gratitude From Students: Speaking Life!

Grateful_heartWhat a blessing to speak life over those that have changed our lives and touched our hearts.  I am forever in gratitude and appreciation for each and every student.

I am so honored to share my latest testimony from a student who travels the world and has taken a few of my yoga classes on Kauai, and another from a very faithful and consistent local student who brightens up the room each time.

“In the past year, I have taken yoga classes with at least 25 different teachers. Samantha is by far the best. (more…)

Pre-natal Yoga- 6 Week Session

happy_pregnant_mamaWe have just completed a 6 week prenatal yoga session.  What a pleasure to guide women in this practice during this very special and transformational time in their lives.

One of my students just sent me a testimony that I am happy to share here.  “Feel so blessed to have taken Samantha’s prenatal yoga class. She pays close attention to every detail so that you get the most out of every pose. I felt amazing after ending each class with a delicious restorative pose. Highly recommend to any momma to be :) ”  -Crystal, Kauai (more…)

Pre-natal Yoga Classes On Kauai

prenatal yoga on KauaiI am so happy to announce that we are beginning a new session of prenatal yoga here in Kilauea, Kauai!

Classes will be specifically for pregnant mothers wishing to enjoy this blessed practice of yoga during this very special time.

I am so grateful I had my yoga practice during my pregnancy.  It supported my body in being strong and open, my mind in being relaxed and calm.  Additionally I was able to connect to my little one as as I consciously breathed for the 2 of us, as we moved together,  and sweetly used meditation techniques to further deepen my connection to her too.

If you know any pregnant mother on Kauai, please spread the word.  Fridays, in Kilauea Farms, from 4-5:15 pm starting October 30th.

Kauai Participates in Global Mala 2009 With Yoga On The Beach

yoga on the beach for Global MalaAn epic day! This morning (Sept. 20, 2009) we gathered a community of yogis from Kauai together to joyfully participate in the worldwide event and intention of Global Mala.

The Global Mala Yoga for Peace Project belongs to the global yoga community and is a seed of a world-wide experiment into the power of meditation in action.

The purpose of the Global Mala is to unite the global yoga community from every continent, school or approach to form a “mala around the earth” through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108 at Fall Equinox as the yoga world’s offering to further the UN International Peace Day.

On this day we gathered at Anini Beach Park on the north shore of Kauai and shined out our heart’s deepest wishes for unity, peace and loving kindness to all.  Here’s a little glimpse:

Global Mala: Yoga For World Peace Worldwide And On Kauai

Shiva ReaGlobal Mala is an event for world peace that weaves together the yoga community of the entire world!  Global Mala is the uniting of millions of yogi’s hearts and deepest wishes for peace on earth for all.  This is prayer in motion, prayer in action!

Inspired by Shiva Rea a few years back, this is an inspiring and connecting event for all yoga practitioners.

A couple years ago I witnessed this event, with my one year old on my hip, at the Staples Center in L.A.  Live music and hundreds of colorful yogis being lead through salutes from great teachers such as Shiva Rea and Sean Corne.  Just last year I partook in the 108 salutes at Equinox Fitness Center in Manhattan Beach, CA where I was an instructor.  There is just something so special about coming together with local community in this blessed light.

“Oh My”… Yoga On Kauai

bamboo forestOh My Yoga is a post written by a Bodhi Boot Camp student of mine, Kathleen Macken.  She has recently written this post on her Kauai Blog, and I am so tickled by her humor, so brightened by her descriptive expressions, that I have to share.  What a beautiful and heart-filled testimonial for Bodhi Boot Camp.

If you would have asked me about doing yoga or anything yoga-ish a year ago, I probably would have rolled my eyes and made some remark about tree hugging, patchouli wearing, psudo “hippies”. Although that remark would have been incredibly uneducated and solely based on the opinion of somebody who has never endured an hour of this unbelievable workout. What can I say? I’m hooked.

My interest in this activity began when a friend of mine started taking pre natal yoga while we were both pregnant. Now I went from somebody that, pre pregnancy, was running 4 miles a day and riding my bike to work, to somebody that resigned to sitting on her super comfy couch with a pint of Ben n Jerry’s for the duration of the 41 1/2 weeks that I was pregnant. Probably not the wisest choice seeing as here I am almost 4 months post natal and pretty unhappy with the way my body is looking. But alas, there is a light at the end of that chocolate coated, cream filled, tunnel.

That light comes in the form of a petite blond named Samantha Fox who for the past 4 Tuesdays, has given me hope that there is a very real possibility that I might glide (without the aid of crisco or pam cooking spray) back into those torn and tattered Levis that give my booty the right amount of lift.
